HC candidates Penn State should avoid: Why Matt Rhule, others would be disastrous

It’s been only a few days since Penn State shocked the college football world by firing head coach James Franklin, but speculation about the next man in charge is already running rampant across the country.

We know who the rumored favorites are at this point, but which ones should Penn State and athletic director Patrick Kraft avoid?

Rhule is the early favorite to land the Penn State job, and it’s easy to see why. The 50-year-old grew up in a Penn State family, played linebacker for the Nittany Lions under Joe Paterno, met his wife, Julie, in State College and is good friends with Kraft. In fact, Kraft was the athletic director at Temple while Rhule was the head coach of the Owls.

All signs point toward Rhule landing the job, but that would be a colossal mistake.
