Homelessness: Enforce laws | The Seattle Times

Re: “Restricting sleeping in public won’t end homelessness” (Feb. 11, Opinion):

The editorial criticized cities that have banned sleeping outside in parks, near schools, day care centers and libraries. Undergirding the public demand for such laws are the progressive left’s policies (defund the police, soft on personal responsibility, homeless “rights” over civic order etc.,) that are seen as a major cause of the homeless crisis.

People are tired of open drug use, high crime rates, graffiti, closing businesses, tolerance of shoplifting, transit safety and poor police response times. “Housing first” will not succeed unless laws restricting behavior are passed simultaneously.

    Warren Peterson, Seattle
