It’s even more likely that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs won’t be in the lineup in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings (CBS, 4:25 p.m. ET).
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Sunday that the league is placing Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list. A player who is on this list is on paid leave indefinitely and may not practice or attend games. He also doesn’t count against the 53-man roster limit. The league often does this when it’s reviewing a player’s legal issues.
On Thursday, Jacobs was formally charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property stemming from his May arrest in Wisconsin.
Before that news broke, the Packers traded a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for second-year running back Kaleb Johnson (via Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). He could now play an even bigger role in the wake of the Jacobs news.
