“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum Kandi Burruss has faced some backlash from fans after showing support for Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were released from federal prison in late May 2025, thanks to a presidential pardon from Donald Trump.

Now, in a new social media post, the Grammy-winner addressed her support for Todd and Julie Chrisley, attributing it to her excitement about their family being reunited. She also challenged a comment suggesting her support meant she was aligned with a specific political party.

Kandi Burruss Claps Back At A Fan Questioning Her Support Of Todd Chrisley

Fans began voicing their opinion about Burruss’ support of Todd and Julie Chrisley after the Bravo veteran expressed excitement over their release in a comment on Chase Chrisley’s Instagram post.

After Burruss commented that she was happy for the family, a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a screenshot of her comment, sparking conversations among online users.

“Kandi, I’ve defended you so much omg I fear this is the [first] and final straw,” an online commenter wrote.

Another user also chimed in, questioning why other users were confused. They also pointed out the fact that Burruss is from Atlanta, Georgia, a “red state,” according to them, seemingly implying that her support for the Chrisleys’ release meant she was aligned with Donald Trump.

However, the veteran reality star wasn’t a fan of the narratives circulating and took to her own social media account to set the record straight.

    Burruss Stands Firm Despite Backlash

On X, Burruss replied to a user to set the record straight regarding her support for the Chrisleys, who began their combined 19-year prison sentence in January 2023.

“What’s the problem?” she asked on the social media platform. “Todd [and] I were cool before he ever had this legal issue.”

She continued, “I’m happy that him [and] Julie are out of jail.”

The mother of three added, “What y’all so pressed for? Me being happy for them has nothing to do with my political beliefs.”

On Instagram, other social media users weighed in on the matter, and many praised Burruss for her defense of Todd and Julie Chrisley.

“This is what a REAL FRIEND looks like, ladies and gentlemen,” one user wrote, which a second user agreed with, adding, “I stand with Kandi. I love Todd and the family.”

Similarly, another user agreed that Burruss’ support for the Chrisleys’ family reunion has “nothing [to do] about being a Trump supporter.”

“I mean, I’m happy for them too, and I can’t stand that man in DC,” another commenter posted.

Many others shared their excitement over the news, too, with one saying anyone who grew up watching “Chrisley Knows Best” would “be happy they’re out too.”

In late May 2025, one of President Trump’s staffers shared a video of the politician calling Savannah Chrisley to share with her the shocking news that Todd and Julie Chrisley would be released from federal prison before the end of that month.

For those unfamiliar with the Chrisleys’ case, the reality TV couple was sentenced to a combined 19-year sentence after being convicted of defrauding Atlanta banks out of $30 million.

In the viral clip, the president could be heard telling Savannah that her parents’ incarceration was a “terrible thing.”

“But it’s a great thing because your parents are going to be free and clean, and I hope we can do it by tomorrow. Is that okay?” he then said.

Trump continued, “We’ll try getting it done tomorrow. So give them — I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them — wish them a good life.”

The Chrisleys Continue To Express Their Gratitude For The President

Shortly after that phone call, Savannah shared a video of herself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat on Instagram, announcing to her fans that the president had officially pardoned her parents.

“The president called me personally as I was walking into the Sam’s Club and notified me that he was signing pardon paperwork for both of my parents. So both my parents are coming home tonight or tomorrow, and I’m freaking out,” she said.

“The fact that the president called me. I will forever be grateful to President Trump, his administration, and everyone along the way,” she stated.

Savannah’s brother, Chase, also shared a similar message in a previous interview, expressing how “grateful” he was to “President Trump and his entire administration.”

“I’m beyond thankful to finally have my parents back home and my family together again!” he finished.
