Lukas Gage Didn’t ‘Recognize’ Himself During His Marriage To Ex

Lukas Gage is reflecting candidly on his marriage to his ex-husband, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, admitting that he wasn’t completely himself during that period.

The former couple got married in April 2023 after a brief courtship and filed for divorce less than a year into the union in November.

Just before the duo tied the knot, media personality Kim Kardashian offered them a piece of advice that might have made the split easier on both parties.

On the September 23rd episode of “Not Skinny But Not Fat,” the American actor confirmed the host, Amanda Hirsch’s suspicion that he did not seem like himself at the wedding.

Gage and Appleton had tied the knot in a secret wedding in Las Vegas. The former couple twinned in all-black outfits, complete with leather pants, furry jackets, and boots.  The ceremony was officiated by Kim Kardashian and aired in an episode of “The Kardashians.”

Addressing Hirsch’s speculations, Gage affirmed, “I don’t know who that person is.”

He also criticized how people are sometimes casually prescribed medications, “There is a very crazy way that, sometimes, we go about prescribing people medication — and I can joke about it, and have humility and laugh about it … whatever, it’s a good story.”

However, he was not insinuating that medications were the reason he got married. He stated that love was part of the reason, “But there was another part of me that I didn’t recognize myself, and everyone around me didn’t recognize who I was.”

Regardless of the way it ended, the “Euphoria” star shared he had “no regrets.”

Sharing Gage’s sentiment about harboring no regrets following their divorce, Appleton opened up for the first time about the toll the separation had on him last month.

According to Cosmopolitan, during an August 6 appearance on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, the 42-year-old revealed that many people assumed he was not affected by the split.

However, he suffered “a lot of private pain.” Addressing their whirlwind romance, Appleton said, “Moving fast doesn’t always mean you’re reckless, I think sometimes it means you’re hopeful.”

He added that falling in love did not guarantee an automatic “forever happy ending,” but he believed it was an opportunity to learn, as he had from every relationship he had been in.

“I’ve learned so much from it,” he concluded.

Appleton and Gage had separated in October before the hairstylist filed for a divorce in November 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

As confirmed by The Blast, Appleton filed for a declaration of uncontested dissolution, stating that the former couple had drawn up a written agreement which addressed spousal support, property division, and attorney fees.

Each party agreed to waive spousal support. However, the hairstylist requested that the court permanently terminate their right to request it.

The conditions Appleton stated in the petition for uncontested dissolution were a result of the agreement the former couple entered into in May 2023 after their wedding.

It contained rules about their pre- and post-divorce. One of such being, “That no community property would be created between the couple alongside a waiver of support in the event of the dissolution of their marriage.”

Their entire divorce settlement was based on their postnuptial, and Appleton and Gage both confirmed that they entered into the agreement of their free will and with the aid of their counsel.
