Miley Cyrus has opened up about losing her Malibu home in the 2018 Woolsey Fire while married to her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

The singer called it a turning point that brought clarity and gratitude, despite ending her marriage to Hemsworth.

Miley Cyrus also discussed the emotional weight of continuing to film “Black Mirror” during the fire, her bond with longtime fans, and her excitement for her upcoming ninth studio album.

At her “Something Beautiful” event on Tuesday, Cyrus got candid about a painful chapter in her life: losing her $2.525 million Malibu home to the 2018 Woolsey Fire, just a month before marrying Liam Hemsworth.

Reflecting on that experience during a Q&A, the 32-year-old artist described it not as a tragedy, but as a turning point.

“When my house burned down, that was the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life, actually,” she said, per the Daily Mail.

Cyrus continued, “Losing everything and being able to rebuild, and to be able to be purposeful and choose every piece that I’m gonna collect, or also just about the people in my life.”

The fire, she explained, symbolized more than physical loss; it marked the breakdown of important relationships, including her marriage to Hemsworth.

“I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down,” she said. “And that again just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude.”

Looking back, Cyrus shared a message for her younger self: “Appreciate those darker times because, like I said, they are only leading you into the light.”

Miley Cyrus Enters Her ‘Something Beautiful’ Era With Passion-Fueled New Album And Film Premiere

Cyrus shared her excitement about ushering in her “Something Beautiful” era, expressing how deeply connected she feels to the project.

“I’m excited for my younger self to really experience,” she said, adding that her passion had to be the foundation. “This album has to start with me loving it, and then the love that I have for it, whether you know it or not, it’s gonna be coming through the speakers when you’re listening.”

Set to drop on May 30, “Something Beautiful” marks her ninth studio album. Just days later, on June 6, the visual film version will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, taking center stage at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre.

During the Q&A, Cyrus opened up about her powerful connection with her fans, many of whom have been with her since her “Hannah Montana” days.

“People say we grew up together, and we really did,” she said. “And it’s definitely what makes, I think, this film so magical and so potent is that all of us have kind of created it together, and it’s cool to be in a room full of people I’ve never met, you know, or strangers, and, you know, you’re not that strange.”

The “More to Lose” songstress spoke about the comfort of being surrounded by supporters who feel familiar, even if she’s never met them.

“We’re all a little strange, but that’s what I think has made all of us really, kind of hold on to the relationship that we have,” she said. “It’s cool to be able to go into a room with people I haven’t met and be like, ‘Remember when my house burned down?’ And you guys are like, ‘Yeah.’ ‘Remember when my fish died?’ ‘Yeah.'”

Miley Cyrus Recalls Filming ‘Black Mirror’ While Her Malibu Home Burned Down: ‘The Show Must Go On’

In 2023, Cyrus opened up about how the lingering anxiety tied to the loss of her Malibu home in the 2018 Woolsey Fire was made even more intense due to where she was when it happened.

At the time, the three-time Grammy nominee was in South Africa, filming her “Black Mirror” episode.

“Actually, as my house was burning down, I was strapped to a gurney with my hands locked in handcuffs strapped to a bed,” she recalled on TikTok.

However, the emotional weight of that moment didn’t pause production. The very next day, she was back in character as Ashley O, performing a high-energy music video for “On a Roll.” Her reaction? “The show must go on.”
