Re: “State should offer people with disabilities dignity, choice” (Dec. 18, Opinion):
My husband and I have reached our 70s, and for all of our daughter’s life, our main concern has been what will happen to her when we die. This is a refrain we have shared with many parents of children with disabilities.
Stacy Dym’s op-ed advocates for care for disabled residents. Thankfully, after many years, the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services has recently provided our daughter with a new home that allows her to live independently in the community. My husband and I are very grateful for the care and support she receives in her new home.
It is my wish that all those who need these services will be able to receive them. State of Washington, please provide these services to those who need them. They not only assist the individual, but strengthen our entire community.
