The English Premier League wrapped up its fourth weekend of action on Monday, Sept. 14.
Manchester City and Arsenal remain tied at the top of the table with a perfect 12 points from four games apiece; Coventry City remains firmly in last place with zero points from its opening rounds of fixtures.
Here are the key storylines from a busy weekend of EPL action.
Hull kept its improbable undefeated season rolling
Four matchdays, four strong results: Despite being favorites for relegation before the season began, newly-promoted Hull City is sitting pretty in the Champions League places with an undefeated Premier League record. It drew 2-2 with Chelsea (a legitimate title contender) on Matchday 4 to pull off its most impressive result yet.
“We were playing a very good team with some very good players in a very demanding stadium and I just wanted us to stay calm and stick to the tactical plan,” said Hull coach (and Premier League Manager of the Month for August) Serge Jakirovic. “If we played our own game we knew we would create some chances.”
Create it did. Hull’s two goals — both from Algerian winger Mohamed Belloumi — were elegant, intelligent strikes that came off the back of intentional build-up play. Hull isn’t just fighting for safety at this point: It’s fighting for the top of the table.
