Ranking the 10 best players in NL West

    1. Shohei Ohtani, DH/RHP, Dodgers

This goes without saying, right? Ohtani is not just the best player in the NL West but the best in baseball. He’s won three MVP Awards in four years, is a four-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger, and most recently, a World Series champion. Since 2021, the 30-year-old has posted an incredible .984 OPS with 120 doubles, 29 triples, 178 home runs, 420 RBI and 116 stolen bases. Oh yeah, and he will return to the mound this season, where he’s posted a 3.01 ERA across 86 starts. He is the complete package.

    2. Ketel Marte, 2B, Arizona Diamondbacks

Marte had a career year in 2024 and was voted the best second baseman in MLB for 2025. He slashed .292/.372/.560 with career-highs in homers (36) and RBI (95) in 136 games. Marte was named an All-Star for the first time since 2019 and finished third in NL MVP voting.

    3. Mookie Betts, 2B/SS, Dodgers

Among the best players in the league since his debut in 2014, Betts continues to have career year after career year in Los Angeles. Since 2021, the eight-time All-Star has accrued 23.8 WAR with 133 doubles, 116 home runs, 322 RBI and .899 OPS.

    4. Fernando Tatis Jr., RF, San Diego Padres

Perhaps a PED suspension in 2022 soured his reputation around the league, but Tatis Jr. is still one of the most exciting players in MLB. Injuries have also derailed his offensive production, but he managed 21 homers, 49 RBI and a .833 OPS across 102 games, earning his second career All-Star appearance in 2024.

    5. Corbin Burnes, RHP, Diamondbacks

After a one-year stay in Baltimore, Burnes headed to the desert on a six-year, $210M deal. The right-hander has been one the best pitchers in baseball since winning the NL Cy Young Award in 2021. In 125 starts, he’s posted a 2.94 ERA and struck out 858 batters in 757 innings.

    6. Freddie Freeman, 1B, Dodgers

As he enters his age-35 season, Freeman continues to get better with age. He still reaches base at an incredible rate while providing some power. Three years in L.A. have seen Freeman produce 141 doubles, 72 homers, 291 RBI, a .399 OBP and a .919 OPS.

    7. Manny Machado, 3B, Padres

2025 will mark Machado’s 14th season in the league and seventh in San Diego. With the Padres, the 32-year-old has slashed .275/.341/.490 with 167 home runs, 536 RBI, 312 walks and two All-Star appearances.

    8. Teoscar Hernandez, OF, Dodgers

It’s unsurprising that the Dodgers elected to re-sign Hernandez to a new deal this offseason after a successful first year in Los Angeles in 2024. He was named an All-Star, Silver Slugger and won the Home Run Derby, posting a .840 OPS, 33 home runs and 99 RBI.

    9. Zac Gallen, RHP, Diamondbacks

Burnes will join the D-backs rotation alongside Gallen, who’s been close to earning a Cy Young of his own the last few seasons. Since 2022, the 29-year-old has gone 43-19 with a 3.20 ERA across 542 innings pitched and striking out 568 batters.

    10. Logan Webb, RHP, San Francisco Giants

Webb has emerged as a bit of a workhorse in the last two years, tossing 420.2 innings since 2023, striking out 366 batters with three complete games and two shutouts. He earned his first All-Star appearance in 2024 as a result of his efforts and will have future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander to mentor him in 2025 in the Giants’ rotation.
