Getting it done in dramatic fashion, the struggling Los Angeles Angels secured a rare sweep on Sunday night. Thanks to a walk-off aided by an errant throw, the Angels beat the Texas Rangers 2-1 to win three in a row as a response to losing three straight to the Athletics earlier in the week.
But the Angels’ walk-off victory did more than just salvage a game and build a mini win streak; it also saved them from wasting a dominant start from Reid Detmers.
Reid Detmers put up one of the Angels’ top games for strikeouts all-time
The left-hander recorded 14 strikeouts in his best start of the season to date. Detmers became the first Angels pitcher to fan Andrew Heaney in a game since 2019.
Both Detmers and Heaney still ended up five shy of the franchise’s single-game high in their respective performances.
