Famous lawyer Robert Shapiro has shared his thoughts on incarcerated rapper and music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ chances of successfully defending himself ahead of his trial.

Shapiro, who was among the attorneys who successfully defended O.J. Simpson from murder charges in 1994, feels Diddy faces an uphill battle in his quest for freedom.

Diddy is facing sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges, with his trial set to begin on May 5.

Robert Shapiro Speaks On Diddy’s Trial

On Tuesday, The Art Of Dialogue shared a video on X showing Shapiro’s interview with a TikToker.

The renowned lawyer was exiting a building when the interviewer asked him about Diddy’s chances of beating the charges against him.

Shapiro replied, “You know, first of all, I think there’s gonna be a different group of charges than what he’s facing right now.”

The renowned lawyer added, “Anytime you are in federal court, anytime you’re not on bail, you have an uphill battle.”

When asked if he thinks there would be more “superseding indictments” against Diddy ahead of his trial, Shapiro responded, “I would think there’s probably a likelihood that may happen.”

The interviewer proceeded to ask Shapiro if Diddy had a “good fighting chance” of regaining his freedom.

The legal attorney answered, “Oh, there’s always a chance. I mean, every trial you have a chance. You are going with the presumption of innocence.”

However, he felt there were many odds against the music mogul. Shapiro said, “But federal court New York, you are in custody…it’s a tough, tough battle.”

Despite the odds against Diddy, Shapiro felt he had “great lawyers.” He said, “He’s got great lawyers and the system will decide.”

Shapiro was also asked if he thought other names would be indicted during Diddy’s trial. He answered, “I have no idea. Every case in federal court is challenging.”

When asked what Diddy’s best defense is, Shapiro replied, “I don’t know enough about the facts to comment on it.”

While Shapiro feels the system will decide Diddy’s fate, television personality Wendy Williams is certain the disgraced rapper will end up in prison.

Williams, who is battling conservatorship and claims she is not mentally impaired, had a phone interview with “The Breakfast Club” co-hosts last week and shared her thoughts on Diddy.

She said per Billboard, “As far as Diddy, Diddy will go to prison for life, people. You don’t know things that I do about Diddy back in the day. And you wanna know what? It’s about time, people. It is about time. Diddy done.”

Following Williams’ statement, the phrase “Diddy Done” went viral on X, with many of the app’s users hailing the television personality and saying she’s still got it.

Diddy’s Lawyers Claim He Is Innocent Based On ‘Freak Off’ Tapes

Shapiro’s acknowledgment that Diddy has a good legal team isn’t far-fetched as the rapper’s attorneys tried to prove their mettle last week.

Diddy’s defense team said to have watched several of his “freak off” tapes collected by law enforcement and claimed the videos proved the acts were consensual.

TMZ reported that the record producer’s legal team listed his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, as “Victim-1” in court documents and claimed that the tapes showed “private sexual activity between fully consenting adults in a long-term relationship.”

They also claimed that Cassie consented to the act and “thoroughly enjoyed herself,” adding that she was “evidently happy, dominant and completely in control” in the sex tapes.

According to Diddy’s legal team, the tapes didn’t show sex parties as his prosecutors claimed. Rather, they showed “adults having consensual sex, plain and simple.”

Diddy’s defense attorneys also said that Cassie kept the “freak off” tapes and handed them to law enforcement.

Hence, they denied that the tapes were seized from his Miami and Los Angeles homes when raided in March 2024.

The lawyers also claimed that there weren’t hidden cameras during the freak offs and no minors were present.

According to court documents, they said, “There are no secret cameras, no orgies, no other celebrities involved, no underground tunnels, no minors, and not so much as a hint of coercion or violence. There is certainly no evidence of sex trafficking.”
