The New Orleans Saints hope second-year quarterback Tyler Shough starts the 2026 season fast. He must do that without two of his biggest weapons.
On Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Saints running back Alvin Kamara is expected to be sidelined for at least the next month after spraining his MCL in Tuesday’s joint practice against the Dallas Cowboys. This comes after rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson recently suffered a right hamstring injury in practice, which is expected to sideline the eighth pick of the 2026 NFL Draft for “roughly two months.”
Shough will likely be without Kamara and Tyson when the Saints open the regular season on the road against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 13 (Fox, 1 p.m. ET). Playing without two of the team’s best skill players will provide an early test for the former Louisville Cardinals standout, who’s aiming to take a Year 2 leap.
How injuries to Alvin Kamara, Jordyn Tyson impact Tyler Shough
Shough, pick No. 40 of the 2025 draft, exceeded expectations as a rookie. He finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan after going 5-4 in nine starts and completing a solid 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards and 10 touchdown passes in 11 games. He tossed just six interceptions on 327 attempts. New Orleans still missed the playoffs, finishing 6-11.
