My take away from the mayor’s race debate: Neither Harrell or Wilson used the word tax, instead saying “progressive revenue”. The words used include the term “ask large corporations to pay…” when the correct wording is “demand to pay”. Harrell noted the majority of people living unhoused in Seattle came from somewhere else. Both touted that Seattle needs to become a sprawling homeless housing project, funded by you guessed it “progressive revenue”. Wilson claimed with nothing to back it up that she would achieve extraordinary progress in turning Seattle into a sprawling public housing project. Wilson proposed tax-paying for-profit housing owners should have rent increases capped at 5%, less than the rise of costs to own and operate rental housing, which aligns with transfering ownership to tax dependent non-profits and the “Social Housing Developer”.. No problem.. Just keep raising the collection of “Progressive Revenue”.
