Re: “Davidson Galleries, Pioneer Square art hub, to shutter” (Aug. 6, Northwest):
Thank you for the tribute to the Davidson Gallery.
Sam Davidson and the Davidson Gallery have been an essential part of Seattle’s cultural foundation. Over the past half century, as an artist I’ve been inspired and enlightened by the gallery’s exhibitions, leadership and operations. It’s difficult to imagine our community of Pioneer Square art galleries without the Davidson. Nevertheless, I am hopeful that the high standards and extraordinary enrichment it has provided us will endure.
Thank you, Sam Davidson, for your dedication and perseverance. A city can be measured in many ways and levels that come and go, but the cultural and creative histories and active vitality are an absolutely essential part of what sustains us and gives us hope.
