America: ‘The rule of law is fading to black’

It has become difficult indeed to retain my pride in being American when our citizens are now cautioned to disguise our nationality when abroad. Our allies witness hypocrisy run amok as our government castigates China regarding threatening Taiwan as the American administration does the same to Greenland and Canada.

Our president envisions Palestinians removed in toto from Gaza in order to create a Middle Eastern “Riviera.” Golf anyone? There is no discernible rush to house perhaps 2 million displaced human beings. Our allies are confused. They consider Russian President Vladimir Putin a dictator, not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Republicans have elevated to the highest reaches in government people they cannot possibly be proud to serve with. That, or get “primaried.” Country first? How quaint. Sans due process, a father of three now calls a hell hole in El Salvador home. Our government admittedly erred.

No matter. Apple devalued $250 billion in one day. Seniors fear for Medicaid and Social Security as tax cuts for the rich own primacy. A recession might be the good news. The rule of law is fading to black. Americans have two options: Embrace chaos or act like Americans. I want my pride back. Please help.

    Randy Jahraus, Kent
