Shilo Sanders willing to pursue new career after release

Undrafted rookie Shilo Sanders is in NFL limbo as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose not to add him back to the practice squad this week after he was cut on Tuesday.

The safety was ejected from the Buccaneers’ final preseason game on Saturday when he threw a punch at Buffalo Bills tight end Zach Davidson.

Following news of the cut, Sanders didn’t seem interested in rejoining Tampa Bay via the practice squad, with his agent saying that he hoped the former Colorado Buffaloes standout was claimed on waivers by another team.

Sanders hasn’t been signed by any team with a week to go before the start of the regular season.

On Thursday, Sanders took to his YouTube channel to provide an update on his plans.

“I feel like this is just part of my story to grow and do bigger and better things, Sanders said. “Whether it’s finding another team. Whether it’s getting another opportunity in the NFL, it is what it is,” Sanders said. “I truly believe in God and believe everything happens for a reason.

“My time being with the Buccaneers has been nothing but great. The city, my teammates, my coaches, everybody has poured in love and support toward me and I’ll be forever grateful for that.”

Sanders believes God has a plan for him and is blessed with several talents outside of football. He mentioned he could go into the arts of music, modeling or acting if he doesn’t receive a second chance in the league.

Sanders put a lot of effort into his football career, playing at three different schools in six years at the college level. He understands that football has to end at some point in his life.

Sanders proved in the preseason that he could compete at the NFL level. But there are other things for teams to consider. Throwing the punch (his second penalty of the night that helped lead to Buffalo scores) didn’t help matters.
