These five playoff teams pose the biggest threat to a Chiefs three-peat

Unsurprisingly, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs clinched the AFC’s No. 1 seed following a dominant 15-win season. Having clinched their tenth consecutive playoff berth, the Chiefs now look to do something that has never been done in NFL history by completing a Super Bowl three-peat. However, winning their third consecutive title will be no small task for Kansas City, as this year’s playoff field is loaded with talented teams eager to knock off the defending champs. Let’s take a look at five playoff teams that pose the biggest threat to thwart the Chiefs’ Super Bowl three-peat bid.

    Philadelphia Eagles

Despite not securing the NFC’s No. 1 seed, its hard to argue against the Eagles as the best team in the conference (and NFL) this season. Defensively, Philly finished with the No.1 defense in yards allowed per game (278.4) and No. 2 scoring defense (17.8 PPG). The team was especially stingy in the secondary, allowing just 174.2 passing yards per game, the lowest total in the NFL.

Behind the stellar play of MVP candidates Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, Philly was equally impressive on offense. The ground game was virtually unstoppable, as Barkley was within arm’s reach of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record. Additionally, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith continued to wreak havoc in the passing game. Entering the postseason, the Eagles are arguably the most complete team in the NFL and the biggest threat to the Chiefs’ three-peat bid.

    Baltimore Ravens

Boasting arguably the league’s best backfield duo in Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, the Ravens shouldn’t be overlooked in this year’s playoff race. Baltimore finished with the most total yards (7,224) and were the only team to surpass 7,000 total yards this season.  In year’s past, the Ravens primarily relied upon their defense to carry them to victory. This year, however, the Ravens’ electric offense could be the driving force of a Lombardi trophy-clinching run in Baltimore. Fueled by a two-time MVP quarterback and generational running back in Henry, Baltimore will be a tough out for any playoff team and could prevent the Chiefs from reaching the Super Bowl entirely should they cross paths.

    Detroit Lions

After a massive NFC Championship implosion last season, the Lions aim to right some wrongs this postseason. Like the Eagles and Ravens, Detroit boasts an elite offense that can score in bunches. This season, Detroit recorded the third most 20+ yards plays (62) in the NFL. It remains to be seen if quarterback Jared Goff can deliver when the spotlight is on, but Detroit has proven itself as a legit title threat this season.

    Minnesota Vikings

Few people expected the Vikings to thrive this season after losing 2024 first-round draft pick J.J McCarthy to a torn meniscus prior to the regular season. Due to the career resurgence of signal-caller Sam Darnold, though, Minnesota finds itself in the hunt for a Super Bowl title. Plus, with the league’s best receiver in Justin Jefferson, the Vikings are a viable dark horse option to punch their ticket to New Orleans.

    Los Angeles Rams

The Rams got off to a slow start this season, but caught fire at the right time to capture the NFC West crown. Should the talented triumvirate of Cooper Kupp, Puka Nucua and Kyren Williams get rolling, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Rams reel off a Super Bowl run.
