Re: “Hegseth, Trump take turns lecturing top military brass” (Oct. 1, A1):

The man in the White House seems obsessed these days with receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

If he truly wants to prove himself worthy of such an honor, why doesn’t he begin by bringing peace to his own country?

Instead, he appears to be doing all he can to incite division, instill fear and promote hatred of some “invasion from within” — comprised, apparently, of anyone who isn’t loyal to his sacrosanct self.

This is scary stuff, folks — time to wake up, take our heads out of the sand and speak up in defense of all we stand to lose.

In that mind-numbing vaudeville show with “his” military leaders, he and his secretary of “war” told us precisely what’s coming to the streets of our country.

To quote Maya Angelou: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

    Jonni Coffin, Granite Falls
