American women on best Wimbledon run since 2002 heading into R16

As Wimbledon’s main draw enters its second week, American women have a larger presence than at any time in recent history.

Following Saturday’s Round of 32 victories by Madison Keys and Ashlyn Krueger, five USA women are into the fourth round at the All England Club, the most since seven reached the Round of 16 in 2002.

Below, we look at those left standing and forecast what lies ahead.

Next match: No. 16 Iva Jovic (July 5)
Prev. best Wimbledon finish: Quarterfinals (2023) |
Pegula-Jovic is the only all-American fourth-round match. The No. 4 seed enters at an advantage, having won the two previous 2026 meetings, one on hard court in the Round of 16 at Dubai in February 2026 and the other on clay in the Charleston Open semis two months later.

The winner of Sunday’s match could potentially face Coco Gauff in the quarters, while No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 10 Karolina Muchova, No. 14 Naomi Osaka or Barbora Krejcikova, the 2024 Wimbledon winner, would await in the semifinals.

Next match: No. 11 Belinda Bencic (July 5)
    Prev. best Wimbledon finish: R16 (2019, 2021, 2024) |
Gauff escaped an upset bid from Solana Sierra in the second round before pulling off another three-set win against American Claire Liu in the third. The two-time grand-slam winner is 0-3 all-time in the fourth round at Wimbledon but 5-2 against Bencic, including three consecutive wins, most recently in three sets at the Miami Open in March 2026.

Next match: No. 4 Jessica Pegula (July 5)
    Prev. best Wimbledon finish: R128 (2025) |
Jovic, 18, made waves in January by reaching the quarterfinals at the 2026 Australian Open, her first time moving past the second round in six grand-slam appearances. She’d add to a breakout season with an upset over Pegula, which would mark her second grand-slam win over a top-10 opponent, previously defeating Jasmine Paolini — ranked eighth in the world at the time — in the Round of 32 at the Aussie Open.

Next match: No. 9 Linda Noskova (July 6)
Prev. best Wimbledon finish: Quarterfinals (2015, 2023) |
The bottom half of the draw, which Keys is attempting to win, is more up for grabs after a stunning end to the third round that saw No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina and No. 3 Iga Swiatek, the reigning Wimbledon champ, both lose in straight sets.

For her part, Keys stormed back from a set down to topple No. 6 Amanda Anisimova, last year’s runner-up, sustaining the positive momentum built from her Wimbledon tune-up championship at Eastbourne.

Keys and Noskova, her fourth-round opponent, have never played. If the tilt comes down to experience, Keys, 31, has the upper hand, appearing in her sixth Wimbledon Round of 16 match while Noskova, 21, is playing her second. The winner avoids Rybakina in the quarters thanks to her upset loss, increasing the possibility of reaching the semis.

    Ashlyn Krueger

Next match: No. 12 Marta Kostyuk (July 5)
    Prev. best Wimbledon finish: R64 (2025) |
Krueger, 22, needed to win three qualifiers just to reach the main draw, and the World No. 102 has made the most of her opportunity. She’s won six consecutive sets after dropping the opener in a first-round match against No. 31 seed Donna Vekic, taking 24 of her past 30 games.

Kruger’s advancement to Wimbledon’s fourth round is already her personal best at a grand slam, and after defeating Kostyuk in their lone previous match, it might be far from over.
