Browns owner addresses QB situation amid Shedeur Sanders questions

The Cleveland Browns have already made one quarterback change this season, and many fans are hoping for another before the end of the 2025 season. Team owner Jimmy Haslam does not think that is necessary at this time.

Haslam recently spoke with Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL media about Cleveland’s current quarterback situation. When asked if there is a timeline for when Shedeur Sanders might see his first regular-season action, Haslam said that is a decision for Kevin Stefanski and the Browns head coach’s staff to make.

Haslam did, however, make it clear that he believes Dillon Gabriel deserves more time.

“Dillon has played three games, and that’s not a great sample (size). And one of them was in a monsoon,” Haslam said. “You could say he played two games. Shedeur’s making progress in practice, so we’re going continue to work with both of those guys.”

Dillon Gabriel has had mixed results

Gabriel lost his first two games as Cleveland’s starting QB, but the team dominated the Miami Dolphins, 31-6, in Week 7. Gabriel did not have to do much in that game and completed just 13-of-18 passes for 116 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Gabriel has completed 59.8% of his passes on the season and has three touchdowns (two in the games he has started). He has yet to throw an interception, which is perhaps the most important stat for the third-round rookie.

With Joe Flacco having been traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Browns are committed to Gabriel for the time being. Some have speculated that they will consider trading Sanders prior to the Nov. 4 deadline.

For now, Gabriel remains the starter of the 2-5 Browns. Last week’s win takes some of the pressure off the team, but many fans are more excited about Sanders than they are about Gabriel. Haslam seems content with the moves Stefanski has made, at least to this point in the season.
