Former child actor Brandon “Bug” Hall is asking the public for financial assistance as he and his wife prepare to welcome their sixth child.
The 41-year-old, best known for playing Alfalfa in the 1994 film “The Little Rascals,” launched a GoFundMe campaign after encountering financial difficulties while settling his family onto new property in rural Arkansas.
Despite Bug Hall explaining that unexpected expenses, overdue bills, and the cost of preparing their living arrangements for the new baby had left him needing assistance, his fundraiser has been called into question.
Bug Hall Appeals For Financial Help Before Baby’s Arrival
Hall took to GoFundMe on Thursday, November 5, explaining that he and his family had successfully moved onto their new property but were still struggling to complete essential arrangements.
The actor revealed that he, his wife, and their five children were currently living in a camper while working toward establishing their new home.
According to TMZ, Hall said they were short of several materials needed to make their new living arrangements fully functional.
He also disclosed that the family had fallen behind on some bills, including phone payments and propane for their camper. An unexpected electricity hookup service fee had added to their financial difficulties.
With his sixth child expected in less than a month, Hall said he was hoping to resolve the outstanding issues before the baby’s arrival.
“We’re all overjoyed to be where we are, and we’re even enjoying roughing it, but baby six is less than a month away, and I really need some help getting the last few things buttoned up beforehand,” he wrote.
Fundraiser Surpasses $2,000 Target As Donations Continue
Hall initially set a fundraising target of $2,000, hoping to receive enough assistance to cover the immediate expenses facing his growing family.
However, the campaign quickly attracted contributions beyond his original expectations. The fundraiser has accumulated more than $9,000 from over 100 donations by November 7.
The campaign, titled “Helping the Hall-Barnetts Finish Before Baby Six,” explains that the money will help the family keep up with bills and prepare their camper and property for the new arrival.
Hall is married to Jill, whom he wed in 2017. The couple already have five children together, four daughters and one son, with their sixth baby expected later this month.
Bug Hall Hits Back At Critics Telling Him To Get A Job: ‘I’m Busy Buildin A Farm And Feeding My Family’
On social media, reports of Hall’s GoFundMe request didn’t go over well, with several stressing that there were other crucial things to channel funds for.
In a viral X post, a person wrote, “Unless this dude & his wife were in an accident and unable to work… Why is it anyone else’s responsibility to send you money before your SIXTH kid is born? You should have invested in condoms.”
Another commented, “F–k that!!! He CHOSE to have 6 kids. No one forced him. He CHOSE to walk away from acting. No one forced him. If he can afford 80 acres, he can afford to live. He can sell some of the acres if he’s so desperate. Then use some of the $ for a vasectomy!”
“And he made 5x what he asked for,” a third person wrote. “I’ll never get over the dumb ish peeps choose to do with their money…there are people who need help with medical expenses, etc., and y’all choose to help a man who can’t afford 5 children but chose to have a 6th.”
Hall didn’t hold back as he actively responded to critics, especially those telling him to get a “real job.”
In one response, he said, “Nah. I’m busy building a farm and feeding my family and community.”
“I have jobs frequently, and I gave up ‘my dreams’ to pursue a better life for my family,” the former actor told another critic.
Hall expressed gratitude to those willing to contribute, acknowledging that many people were experiencing financial difficulties of their own.
“I’m no more deserving than anyone else, but I ask in your charity that you help where you can,” he said.
He also encouraged supporters who could not make financial contributions to share the campaign or remember his family in their prayers.
The actor explained that his immediate plan was to complete the remaining work on the property within two weeks so he could take on employment before his wife gave birth.
Bug Hall’s Decision To Leave Hollywood And Embrace Off-Grid Living
Hall’s latest financial appeal comes years after he made the decision to walk away from his acting career.
The former child star previously explained that his work in film and television had become difficult to reconcile with his religious beliefs.
In a YouTube video titled “Into the Unknown”, published in April 2025, he discussed his decision to leave the entertainment industry, admitting that it had not been an easy choice because he genuinely loved acting.
“It was a hard realization, but it was something that I was pretty firm on, and I still am,” he said.
“The irony was that I loved the work. I wasn’t sort of disillusioned in terms of my love of work. I really, really loved it. I loved film and TV and the process of storytelling, more than any of you.”
Hall had previously described himself as a “radical Catholic extremist” and said his acting career was no longer compatible with his faith.
According to People Magazine, he also gave away most of his material possessions and his savings as part of what he described as a “vow of poverty.”
He subsequently moved his family to an approximately 80-acre property near Mountain View, Arkansas, where they planned to build a home and embrace an off-grid lifestyle.
Bug Hall: From Childhood Fame To Fatherhood of Six
Hall rose to fame as a child actor when he portrayed Alfalfa Switzer in the 1994 comedy “The Little Rascals.”
The film became one of his most recognizable projects, making him a familiar face to audiences who grew up watching the popular children’s comedy.
He also appeared in productions including “The Stupids,” “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves,” and television series such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
However, his priorities have changed considerably since his early acting career.
Now preparing to become a father of six, Hall appears focused on raising his family away from the entertainment industry and building a self-sufficient life in Arkansas.
