After decades of being under intense public scrutiny for his wild lifestyle, Charlie Sheen is now laying it all out in the open.

The actor is set to release his memoir, The Book of Sheen, along with a new Netflix documentary titled “aka Charlie Sheen.” Both works promise to shed light not only on his wild lifestyle but also to reveal previously unknown details about his sexual experiences with men.

Despite the weight of these revelations, Charlie Sheen said in an interview that he is no longer hiding from his past but owns it. He added that openly discussing his past sexual experiences with men has been “liberating.”

For years, Charlie Sheen’s personal life has been under intense public scrutiny, but the actor is now taking control of his own story.

In new projects, including a memoir and a Netflix documentary, Sheen has detailed much about his sexual escapades, including sexual experiences with men.

With both projects just days away from release, Sheen has been on a promotional run and recently revealed to People magazine why he chose to speak so openly and candidly about this chapter of his past.

“I’m not going to run from my past, or let it own me,” he told the outlet, referencing how he “flipped the menu over” in his sexual life.

Sheen also claimed that it felt cathartic to finally talk about these details after years of keeping them under wraps.

“Liberating. It’s f-cking liberating… [to] just talk about stuff,” the actor told his interviewer.” It’s like a train didn’t come through the side of the restaurant. A f-cking piano didn’t fall out of the sky. No one ran into the room and shot me.”

Speaking about when his sexual experiences with men began, Sheen claimed they started after he got into crack.

“That’s what started it,” he revealed to the outlet, “That’s where it was born, or sparked.”

At first, he had internal battles about this kind of pleasure, but finally gave in to it after a while.

“In whatever chunks of time that I was off the pipe, trying to navigate that, trying to come to terms with it — ‘Where did that come from?… Why did that happen?” he further recalled.

He added, “And then just finally being like, ‘So what?’ So what? Some of it was weird. A lot of it was f-cking fun, and life goes on.”

Unfortunately for Sheen, his years of drug-fueled behavior resulted in him contracting HIV, a diagnosis he publicly revealed back in 2015. Since then, he has been on antiretroviral medication and claims he has not passed it on.

Just two days ago, Charlie Sheen celebrated his 60th birthday, a milestone many may have doubted he would reach given his reckless past lifestyle.

While Sheen is deeply grateful to be alive and makes an effort to stay healthy with light exercise and better eating habits, he admitted that he never truly believed he would make it this far in life.

“I have more days behind me than in front of me, and that’s fine,” he told People magazine.

He went on to reveal that he is not facing any major health setbacks despite his advanced age.

“I’m feeling pretty good! Most guys my age, they usually have a bad back or knees. Somehow I dodged that,” Sheen joked. “I just have a bad shoulder that I have to take Advil for.”

After years of reckless living, Sheen’s journey toward becoming a better man began with quitting drugs and later giving up alcohol.

He has also stepped back from his once chaotic romantic life and worked to make amends with many of the people affected by his addictions.

Now, his biggest challenge left is to forgive himself, a task he admits has been difficult, as certain parts of his past continue to haunt him.

“I still get what I call the ‘shame shivers.’ These are the moments that hit me, of the heinous memories and choices and consequences,” he revealed.

In recent years, Sheen has made progress, thanks in part to the support of people urging him to forgive himself.

“They’re getting farther in between, so I guess that’s progress,” Sheen said of his “Shame Shivers.”

He continued, “What has been interesting about making amends is that most people have been like, ‘Hey yeah, we’re good man, but we hope you’ve also forgiven yourself.'”
