I once climbed the industrial structures myself, more than 40 years ago, when I was a mechanical engineering student at the University of Washington. Even then, it was off- limits but irresistible.
The structures are corroding and it wouldn’t be cost-effective to maintain them. They will never be made safe and will succumb to gravity eventually.
How about tear the whole thing down and replace it with an artistic rendition that provides the same aesthetic but is maintainable and also encourages people to safely enjoy the stair climb and views while also learning a bit about the workings of the original equipment?
