Mavericks GM Nico Harrison reportedly has been ‘subjected to death threats’ in wake of Luka Doncic trade

The Dallas Mavericks do not want to take any chances when it comes to the safety of general manager Nico Harrison.

Harrison was the mastermind behind the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The widespread belief among fans is that the Mavericks got fleeced in the deal for giving up their 25-year-old superstar.

As a result, Harrison has become public enemy No. 1 in Dallas. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Harrison has been “subjected to death threats,” with some of them having racial undertones.

The Mavericks organization has reportedly taken precautions to ensure Harrison isn’t harassed during home games at American Airlines Center. The team has beefed up security with protests outside the arena already planned. The Mavs have also decided not to have Harrison sit among fans in the stands, like he used to do in the past.

The Mavericks have clearly been in damage control mode since the trade. The team has begun to offer refunds to disgruntled Mavs fans who no longer want their season tickets with Doncic. Even Anthony Davis, the man Doncic was traded for, understands why Mavericks fans are upset.

Given the wild stunts Mavericks fans pulled after news of the Doncic trade broke, it’s hard to call the precautions an overreaction.
