Myles Garrett linked with NFC East team

While Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski insisted at the NFL Scouting Combine this week that they won’t accept an offer for wantaway pass-rusher Myles Garrett anytime soon, some continue to believe it’s a matter of when, not if, Cleveland will trade Garrett this offseason.

On the latest edition of The Athletic’s “Scoop City” podcast, NFL insider Dianna Russini revealed that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman could soon call Berry about a potential trade for Garrett.

“Here’s what some people are saying right now,” Russini explained, Audacy’s Andrew Porter shared. “That Howie’s willing to move on from some of these [young] guys because he’s looking to make a big swing and that big swing would be for Myles Garrett. Some of these guys that you think are a sure thing may not be sure things to return to Philly.”

Garrett reportedly has “slammed the door shut on negotiations” with the Browns regarding a restructured contract that would make him the league’s highest-paid defensive player. He is signed through the 2026 season, and the Browns reportedly are willing to keep him until at least the start of the 2025 campaign, even if he threatens to sit games out.

Browns beat writer Zac Jackson recently suggested the club consider accepting a package that includes draft choices and at least one young player in return for Garrett. It’s unclear if the Eagles could assemble a good enough package to acquire the one-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award winner.

It’s thought the Washington Commanders could strike out in their pursuit of Garrett partly because Washington holds a low 2025 first-round draft pick and could again be a contender next season. To compare, the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles have overall pick No. 32 this year. As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Philadelphia as the betting favorite at +650 odds to win Super Bowl LX next February.

Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News noted this week that the Eagles “have a good baseline to work in a contract extension for Garrett.” That doesn’t mean the Browns will grant Garrett’s request, but it sounds like Roseman is assembling a “‘Godfather’ offer” to land the 29-year-old before the ongoing combine wraps up this weekend.
