Re: “Judge temporarily blocks Trump plan offering incentives for federal workers to resign” (Feb. 5, Nation):
Thank you to federal employees for their service. Thanks for the invisible and visible actions they take daily to serve, protect and care for the people of our country.
I was once a federal employee. I know that their jobs are not glamorous. They are paid less than they would be paid in the corporate sector. They have to put up with political shenanigans every four years. This year is unprecedented in the level of chaos and cruelty that is being thrown their way (our way).
Still they stay. Their tenure represents institutional knowledge, wisdom, tried and true practices that make our lives in the United States as safe and secure as they can be, regardless of who occupies the chair behind the Resolute Desk at the White House.
The offer to resign with full pay from the administration of a president convicted of a felony is laced with disrespect and nefarious intention.
Staying and doing their work with integrity and courage will outlast this administration’s impact. Their legacy will be far greater than the mendacious regime that wants to rend the fabric of our society and democracy.
Federal employees, please, don’t resign.
