Re: “Quintard Taylor, UW professor and Black history archivist, dies at 76” (Sept. 25, Local News):
A warm thank you to Claire Withycombe for her thorough and poignant reporting on the unexpected death of Professor Quintard Taylor, a giant among scholars at the University of Washington. I had the pleasure of meeting with Professor Taylor a few times, talking history and current events. He was always charming, brilliant, and witty. His BlackPast.org site is a wonder of true stories not often told. I am far more informed because of our brief encounters.
There is indeed a war on history launched by the current president and many governors of his party. Sadly, the country lost one of its guardians of American history. Let’s hope his life inspires Americans to continue on in telling the American story, with all its richness, its triumphs, its tragedies and its truths.
