Report: Caitlin Clark rejects NBA’s 3-point contest invite

The three-point contest between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu was the highlight of an otherwise abysmal 2024 NBA All-Star weekend.

The event was so successful that chatter ensued of another intergender three-point contest in 2025, this time pitting Curry and Klay Thompson against Ionescu and Caitlin Clark. With the All-Star weekend looming, Thompson recently admitted that “it’d be fun” to participate in an NBA versus WNBA shootout. Even Ionsecuo has shared her enthusiasm about returning to the NBA stage after wowing fans last year by outscoring many male players with a score of 26.

Clark, though, is not enthused about the idea. According to Sports Business Journal’s Tom Friend, the Fever star has turned down an invite to participate in this year’s All-Star festivities in San Francisco.

“Caitlin Clark has told the NBA she is disinclined to participate in an All-Star Game 3-point contest next month that could include Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Sabrina Ionescu, sources told SBJ, although indications are the league is still in discussions with Clark’s representatives,” Friend reported on Wednesday.

The report added that Clark is not interested in “shooting 3-pointers off of a ball rack” since her practice regimen consists only of catch-and-shoot threes or shots off the dribble.

“Unless she is persuaded otherwise, she will decline the invitation,” Friend added.

It was reported earlier that Curry had approached Clark, Ionescu and Thompson about a two-on-two contest. The Warriors guard will be one of the backcourt starters in the 74th annual All-Star Game on Feb. 16. This year, the 24 All-Stars will be divided into three separate teams as part of a tournament that also features the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge, which pits rookies against sophomores.
