The Chicago Cubs entered their series with the Milwaukee Brewers trailing by eight games in the race for the National League Central, but with seven head-to-head games remaining.
They made a statement in the first game, mashing franchise-record nine home runs as a team with third baseman Alex Bregman hitting a hat-trick for the second time this season in a 17-3 win. Bregman finished 3-for-6 with four RBI, bringing him to 23 home runs and 77 RBI in his first campaign in Wrigleyville. The barrage also capped off a historic month for the Cubs, whose 62 home runs in August set a National League record for a single month.
Despite Bregman and Chicago’s bats being historically hot, they still have plenty of work to do.
Milwaukee still owns the best record in MLB, holds a seven game lead in the division and boasts a pitching staff with the second-lowest ERA and second-most strikeouts in all of baseball.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Monday was Bregman’s second three-homer game of the season, something that had been done 29 times before. With that being said, how many of the players to hit three home runs multiple times in the same season can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
