Tom Brady’s agent gives update on broadcasting career

Tom Brady has no plans to walk away from his Fox broadcasting contract and fully intends to continue on as the network’s top NFL analyst. That update comes directly from Brady’s agent, Don Yee, who told Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal on Thursday that his client had a “tremendous amount of fun” working for Fox this year and that it is simply the first year of a long relationship.

Yee was then asked by Fischer if Brady intends to fulfill the remainder of his contract, Yee told him “Yes.”

Brady still has nine years remaining on a contract that pays him $375 million over 10 years.

This was Brady’s first year in his role as an announcer, and it was met with criticism that ranged from constructive to downright scathing.

While there is an argument to be made he is the best player in league history, that greatness did not translate over to the broadcast booth. But the quality of his work is not the thing that is getting people’s attention and driving speculation regarding his future.

It is the fact that he is not only a part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, but that he is also taking a leading role in the direction of the franchise, including with its current head-coaching search.

Brady’s role as owner prohibits him from taking part in production meetings and attending weekly practices with opposing teams, and in theory, it would limit him from criticizing officials or the league. He is also going to be announcing playoff games (including this Saturday’s game between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions) with assistant coaches (specifically Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson) who he might be interested in hiring.

There are significant potential conflicts there.

To this point Fox, the Raiders and most importantly the NFL have not really expressed much concern over any of it or done anything about it. It does not seem that anybody will in the near future, either. It also seems likely, if we are to believe his agent, that Brady is not going to be too worried about it, either.
