    Trump administration: Revenge and authoritarianism

Re: “FBI ousts senior officials who were connected to investigations of Jan. 6” (Aug. 8, Nation & World):

President Donald Trump continues to attempt to legitimize the violent attack of the U.S. Capitol  by his supporters. He has already issued pardons for the convicted criminals who attacked police officers and destroyed property. He is now taking revenge on government employees who were doing their jobs to enforce the laws of our country.

This is exactly what authoritarian leaders do to take revenge and legitimize their illegitimate activities. Our president blames and punishes the innocent while rewarding the guilty and law breakers.

How long will we continue to tolerate the deterioration of our democratic values?

    Stuart Kaufman, Seattle
