Life seems excellent for the New York Mets, who keep finding ways to win in the early portion of the season.

In Wednesday’s home game vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning. New York first baseman Pete Alonso doubled to center field off an 89 mph slider from relief pitcher Jordan Romano, sending shortstop Francisco Lindor home.

Later in the inning, New York right fielder Starling Marte singled to right field, sending Alonso home, sealing a 4-3 win for the Mets. According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, New York is now 12-1 at home, which is its best 13-game home start in team history.

The Mets, who have won seven consecutive games, are on their longest undefeated homestand since they went 10-0 in 2015, via the Associated Press.

New York (18-7) owns the best record in baseball and a five-game lead over the Phillies (13-12) in the National League East.

Attribute their fast start to Alonso playing some of the best baseball of his career. Through his first 25 games, the seven-year veteran has career highs in batting average (.341) and OPS (1.122).

Right fielder Juan Soto, who signed a 15-year, $765M deal with the Mets this offseason, hasn’t found his groove yet. Through his first 25 games, he’s slashing .233/.364/.389. If Soto gets rolling, the Mets should become an even more dangerous team.
