Why Jets should trade Breece Hall and draft Ashton Jeanty

As the 2025 NFL Draft inches closer, the noise surrounding what the New York Jets will do with their No. 7 overall pick gets louder.

While the Jets have the option of bolstering the offensive line for Justin Fields with first-round talents such as LSU tackle Will Campbell or Missouri’s Armand Membou, it appears that Aaron Glenn is floating the idea of selecting the class’ No. 1 running back Ashton Jeanty, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

A bold decision, rash maybe. But Glenn is embarking on his first year as head coach of a franchise desperate for a winning season.

That would leave Glenn and the Jets with a bit of a backfield quandary.

Breece Hall was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Jets and quickly became the feature ball carrier.

But Hall clearly hasn’t lived up to expectations in the Big Apple, logging zero 1,000-yard rushing campaigns and nine fumbles over his three-year career.

The numbers don’t tell the whole tale, but they do corroborate a growing sentiment: the Jets might be better off hitting the reset button at the position.

Hall has been a strong playmaker for New York, despite serious hindrances to the team’s success. The 23-year-old running back has recorded 2,333 yards on 512 attempts and 14 touchdowns in 40 NFL appearances.

The best is yet to come for Hall, but he’s mired in a system that doesn’t fully maximize his skill set. Inconsistent offensive play and limited red zone touches have Hall’s future with the Jets murky, whether he stays or goes this offseason.

Jeanty would instantly step into an RB1 role, with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis following in Glenn’s proposed committee.
