Re: “Trump loves that ‘Colbert got fired,’ hopes Kimmel is next” (July 18, Nation & World):
Watching Stephen Colbert lose his platform, while President Donald Trump celebrates and calls for other critics to be fired, is a chilling moment for American democracy. This is not just about TV shows — it’s about silencing dissent.
When satire becomes too risky, and companies cave to political pressure, we edge closer to authoritarianism. We must wake up, speak up and educate ourselves to vote for leaders who show honesty, sincerity and a real commitment to truth.
Washington state has always been a place for independent thinking. Let’s defend that. Let’s ensure that truth, compassion and fairness — not fear — guide our future.
