Re: “He set out to walk around the world. After 27 years, his quest is nearly over” (Dec. 7, Nation & World):
Karl Bushby’s quote, “the overwhelming kindness of strangers was a shocker for me,” had direct meaning to my wife and me.
My wife’s international meetings have provided us with experiences that give the article true meaning. Having traveled on six continents, we support Bushby’s statement on human kindness.
The worldwide fighting that makes the headlines is instigated by a minority of the population. We found humanity to be in the hearts of the people.
While language might be a barrier, openness of caring led to friendly encounters. Needing information as to our areas of travel, we found a smile solved the language differences. Communication happens in many ways.
With current world fighting, let’s remind ourselves that the heart sometimes needs awakening.
