“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” stars Mayci Neeley and Layla Taylor are on the fence about returning to the show for a seventh season.
On social media, the two reality stars responded to fans asking whether they could see themselves sticking around the group for another spin around the block.
While their decision about “SLOMW” is still in the air, several cast members have moved on, including Whitney Leavitt and most recently, Mikayla Matthews.
Responding to a fan who asked if she was staying on the show, Neeley, who’s appeared on the series since day one, said she’s weighing her options. “I am finishing this current season we are filming and then not sure after that,” she wrote.
Neeley isn’t the only cast member deciding if they want to be part of the show moving forward. Taylor, who’s had her fair share of on-camera drama, gave a similar response when a fan asked about her status. “It’s just such an impossible situation for everyone involved, but I’m finishing out season 6 and then tbd.”
Season 5 Of ‘SLOMW’ Just Released On Hulu
Neeley and Taylor’s responses about “SLOMW” come days after Hulu released the latest season to stream. The five-episode season takes viewers behind-the-scenes of what led producers to halt production on the show following Taylor Frankie Paul’s alleged domestic violence altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.
The season also shows cast member Jessi Draper navigating life after her challenging divorce, Taylor focusing on her relationship with Mason McWhorter, and Mikayla Matthews continuing to address her intimacy concerns with her husband, Jace Terry.
Fun moments are also sprinkled throughout the season, which Draper previously told The Blast she was excited for fans to see. “You guys see that part of us online on the show, but we actually have so many light-hearted and fun, funny moments as friends, and I wish you saw more of that,” she said.
Mikayla Matthews Announces Departure From ‘SLOMW’
Days before Neeley and Taylor revealed where they stood with the show, veteran cast member Matthews said she was quitting the series after season 6 because of behind-the-scenes disagreements.
“The ONLY reason I’m leaving the show is because I was told a certain person was coming back,” she wrote online. “I told [production] before agreeing to do [season] 6 that I wasn’t going to film if that certain someone came back. Because it’s UNETHICAL and kids are involved.”
While it’s unclear who Matthews is speaking about, it’s believed she’s referring to Paul, who faced backlash earlier this year after a video showing her assaulting Mortensen came to light.
“I filmed [season] 6 cause that person was not there.. then we were told she was coming back,” she said. “I said great, then I will not be participating, god bless and goodbye, haven’t filmed a day since.”
Matthews Says She Won’t Go Against ‘My Morals’
Before that, Matthews shared a lengthy Instagram post revealing there was even more to her decision.
“I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse,” she wrote.
Matthews went on to say that there’s “no amount of money worth going against my morals” before saying platforming certain behavior “feels wrong and unethical.”
Matthews ‘Grateful’ For Her Experience On The Show
Like the other women, Matthews gained an even larger following and platform after appearing in the breakthrough first season of “SLOMW.” In her goodbye message, Matthews thanked the series for the unforgettable experience, then shared one final pointed message.
“This show has been a huge part of my life and has helped me provide for my family. I’m so grateful for the experience,” she said. “Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again!”
“Love you all,” she concluded.
